Calpine's Metcalf power plant in northern California online Calpine Corporation's Metcalf Energy Center has begun operation and is delivering up to 600 megawatts of power to the northern California power market. Located in San Jose, Metcalf is the first large power generator in Silicon Valley. It will be the cornerstone of energy supply and reliability for the region.
3M's new high-capacity overhead conductor is installed and activated on Xcel Energy's Black Dog-Blue Lake transmission line Xcel Energy, which serves 3.3 million electricity and 1.8 million natural gas customers in 10 states, has installed and energized 3M's new Aluminum Conductor Composite Reinforced (ACCR) overhead conductor on a 10-mile line that is an integral part of the electricity grid in the Upper Midwest. It is the first commercial application of the ACCR, which more than doubles the transmission capacity of conventional conductors of the same diameter, without requiring construction of new towers.

Foster wheeler awarded contract to supply pulverized coal boiler in United States Foster Wheeler Ltd. announced that the Foster Wheeler Global Power Group's U.S. subsidiary has been selected to supply a nominal 2,000,000 pounds-per-hour pulverized coal-fired boiler (PC) to Bechtel Power Corporation for the Two Elk Generating Facility in Wyoming. Bechtel is designing and constructing the coal-fired power plant for Two Elk Generation Partners, Ltd., a Wyoming Partnership.
NewSouth Energy announces Carville Energy Center to supply Entergy with 485 MW of electricity NewSouth Energy LLC has announced an agreement for the Carville Energy Center in St. Gabriel, La. to provide a one-year supply of up to 485 megawatts of electricity to Entergy Corporation. Entergy and its customers in the Gulf States region, including parishes in South Louisiana from Baton Rouge to Lake Charles, will benefit from this modern, reliable power resource that will provide needed capacity and energy in time for this year's peak summer demand.

Ormat Technologies signs a new contract for an ORMAT recovered energy generation facility Ormat Technologies, Inc. announced that, through its wholly owned subsidiaries, it has entered into supply and construction agreements for approximately US $9,150,000 for an ORMAT recovered energy generation (REG) power plant with a pipeline company in Western Canada (the "Supplier"). The facility will have a design capacity of 5.0 MW net and will convert recovered waste heat from an existing gas turbine driving a compressor on the Supplier's pipeline into electrical power.

Condumex to build HTS cable system with HTS wire from American Superconductor American Superconductor Corporation, a leading electricity solutions company, announced that it has received an order for its first generation (1G) high temperature superconductor (HTS) wire from Condumex, the largest wire and cable manufacturer in Mexico. The HTS wire will be utilized by Condumex to manufacture and install an HTS power cable system in a Mexico City, Mexico electrical substation.
Calpine expands and extends power contract with Safeway Calpine Corporation and Safeway Inc. have agreed to expand and extend the term of their retail power sales contract, enhancing the single largest California retail transaction Calpine has entered into to date. The new agreement calls for the delivery of approximately 130 megawatts, a 20-megawatt increase, and extends the term of the existing contract one additional year through mid-2008. Increased power deliveries are scheduled to begin June 1, 2005.
