Reliant Energy lauds Texas legislative committee's recommendation to move forward with nodal market design
A legislative committee studying the operation of Texas power markets released a report Thursday that calls on the Texas Legislature to support ongoing efforts by the Public Utility Commission (PUC) and market stakeholders to transition to a nodal wholesale market design in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).

NERC president and CEO announces intention to retire
Michehl R. Gent, president and chief executive officer of the North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC), announced today that he intends to retire at the end of 2005. Mr. Gent, 64, joined NERC in 1980 as executive vice president and was elected president in 1982.

ConocoPhillips drops out of Arctic Power
ConocoPhillips, the largest oil company in Alaska, has dropped out of Arctic Power, the single-issue lobbying group that promotes opening the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil and gas drilling. The decision by the Houston-based oil giant means that the two largest operators on Alaska's North Slope - BP and ConocoPhillips - are no longer members of the Arctic drilling lobby group.
