EPRI says tailored incentive packages may be needed to encourage initial deployment of clean coal technology The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has released a preliminary analysis of possible federal incentives for accelerating the deployment of integrated-gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) power plants, a clean, efficient, advanced coal technology. According to the analysis, no single incentive can bridge the cost gap between IGCC plants and conventional coal-based power plants, but tailored packages of incentives may help overcome the barriers to deployment.
Commission gives green light to Midwest ISO energy market The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission accepted the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator's (Midwest ISO, or MISO) certification that it is ready to launch its energy markets on April 1, 2005, finding the regional transmission organization has undertaken the necessary steps and testing to assure continued power grid reliability and continuity of operations and systems.

PennFuture calls Bush mercury regulations 'toxic news for Pennsylvania Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future (PennFuture) called the Bush Administration's plan to allow polluters to trade mercury credits "toxic news for Pennsylvania," and called on the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to immediately begin regulating poisonous mercury emissions from the state's power plants.
