NERC issues 2005 Summer Reliability Assessment The North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) released its 2005 Summer Assessment today, which provides an assessment of projected electricity supply and demand in North America for the upcoming summer season.
Regional planning, coal-fired resources explored at FERC conference in West Virginia "Increasing transmission infrastructure and maintaining a reliable transmission system are critical parts of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's strategic plan," FERC Chairman Pat Wood, III said today at a conference in Charleston, West Virginia. "These actions, along with efforts to develop domestic energy supplies, will help make sure that the most economical supplies of electricity reach America's customers," he said.

NRC toughens export-import requirements for certain radioactive materials The Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved new regulations to require specific licenses for the export or import of radioactive materials that could be used in so-called "dirty bombs" or other terrorist weapons, making the United States the first country to implement international export controls on these materials.
JEA Northside one of the world's cleanest coal-fired plants thanks to Foster Wheeler CFB technology Foster Wheeler Ltd. announced that recent tests with mid- to high-sulfur coals at JEA's Northside Generating Station in Jacksonville, Florida, USA, have further verified that the facility, which uses Foster Wheeler's Circulating Fluidized-Bed (CFB) technology, is one of the world's cleanest coal-based power plants.
Harrison County Power Plant sustains fire damage At approximately 2 a.m., Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America, a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan, Inc., reported a failure on one of its pipelines in Harrison County, Texas, resulting in a fire at the Harrison County Power Plant. The 550 MW natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant is located approximately 8 miles southeast of Marshall, Tex. Three Entergy employees on site at the time of the rupture were treated for minor cuts and burns, but none remain hospitalized.
