PSE files request to change electric rates, recoup higher power costs
Rising power costs prompted Puget Sound Energy (utility subsidiary of Puget Energy) to file for a small increase in its electric rates. The utility is asking the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) to increase rates by 3.65 percent, on average, for PSE's 1 million electric customers. A typical residential bill (based on 1,000 kilowatt-hours of power usage) would increase by 4.4 percent -- or $2.86 per month.

Southern Company announces purchase of Florida power plant from Constellation Energy
Southern Company announced that it has completed the purchase from Constellation Energy of a 680-megawatt dual-fueled simple-cycle generating plant in Cocoa, Fla., for $206 million plus certain closing costs and adjustments. As announced in April, Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power signed a Purchase and Sale Agreement with Constellation Energy to purchase Oleander Power Plant. Since then, both parties have received all necessary regulatory approvals and the purchase is now complete.

TECO Energy completes major milestones, updates 2005 earnings guidance
TECO Energy, Inc. has completed a major step in its exit from the merchant power business by transferring the Union and Gila River projects to the lending group and has taken additional steps in its debt redemption and refinancing plan. In late May, the company issued $200 million of lower interest rate notes that, together with cash on hand, are being used to retire $380 million of higher- cost debt, and yesterday the company completed the sale of $100 million of floating rate notes.

Commerce Energy expands into two new Texas markets
Commerce Energy Group, Inc. the largest non-utility retail energy marketer in the U.S. announced that it has entered two new utility markets in Texas, AEP and TNMP, which are in South and West Texas. Commerce Energy is currently serving over 9,000 customers in Texas's two biggest markets, Centerpoint and TXU (Houston and Dallas). The expansion brings the total number of markets served nationwide to 19 utility markets in 9 states.

Sierra Pacific Resources general counsel leaves company
Sierra Pacific Resources announced that Ernest E. East, general counsel and corporate secretary, has resigned from the company. East plans to return to the gaming industry where he was employed previously.

Con Edison continues building for New York's future
Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison) said it is investing more than $1 billion this year to upgrade and reinforce its electric delivery system for more than 3 million customers in New York City and Westchester County. The investments include the installation or replacement of more than 100 miles of new transmission and distribution cables.

PNM Resources completes acquisition of TNP Enterprises
PNM Resources completed its acquisition of Fort Worth-based TNP Enterprises, just over 10 months after announcing the deal.

Nevada Power files for base tariff energy rate increase
Nevada Power Company filed a Base Tariff Energy Rate request seeking to set rates to reflect increasing costs for fuel and purchased power needed to serve its customers. The filing is the first as required under new regulations set in 2004 by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN).
