Con Edison teams with EPRI on technology to integrate new local power generation into existing power system A solid state technology now being developed by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) with primary support from Con Edison addresses the challenges faced by utilities as new sources of power are introduced to existing transmission and distribution systems. The device, a solid-state current limiter (SSCL), restricts fault current from new generation or transmission, reduces switching surges, and offers an environmentally benign alternative to circuit breakers.
