Allegheny Energy completes equity financing Allegheny Energy, Inc. announced that it has completed a $151.5 million private placement of its common stock. The Company sold 10 million shares of common stock at a price of $15.15 per share directly to four institutional investors. The Company intends to use the proceeds of the sale to reduce debt as part of its plan to repay $1.5 billion in debt by year-end 2005.
GE Energy, Bechtel announce alliance for cleaner coal projects GE Energy and Bechtel Corp. intend to establish an alliance to develop a standard commercial offering for optimized integrated combined-cycle gasification (IGCC) projects in North America. IGCC systems convert coal and other hydrocarbons into synthetic gas, which after cleanup is used as the primary fuel for a gas turbine in a combined-cycle system.

Progress Energy revises 2004 earnings guidance due to lower synthetic fuels production from hurricane impacts Progress Energy announced that the total damage resulting from Hurricanes Charley, Frances and Ivan is estimated at $310 million to $330 million. As a result, the company's 2004 ongoing earnings guidance is being revised to $2.95 to $3.10 per share from $3.50 to $3.65 per share due to a decrease in synthetic fuel production.
