FPL's fuel, purchase power and other clauses approved for '05
Florida Power & Light Company said the Florida Public Service Commission has approved fuel and other clause adjustments that together will increase a typical 1,000 kilowatt-hour residential customer bill by $3.49 -- or four percent -- beginning Jan. 1, 2005, to $89.92. FPL does not make a profit on fuel as the cost is a pass-along reflected in customer bills.

ABB electricity market software goes live in California
ABB, a power and automation technology company, announced the California Independent System Operator (Cal-ISO), which operates the State's electricity markets and controls the State's power grid, has completed a major overhaul of its electricity market systems with the implementation of ABB's Real-time Market Application (RTMA) software.

Itron spins off new software company
Itron Inc. announced it has granted exclusive licenses of its transmission and substation design software products to a new Spokane-based firm called Pondera Engineers, LLC. The agreement includes the sale and support of well-known design tools such as TL-Pro™, TLCADD™ and others.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company issues requests for offers to meet its customers' long-term electricity needs
Pacific Gas and Electric Company announced it has issued two Requests for Offers (RFOs) to ensure sufficient, reliable power to meet the long-term electricity needs of its customers. One RFO is for long-term power contracts and the other is for utility-owned generation facilities. Through these RFOs, the company seeks approximately 2,200 megawatts of power between 2008 and 2010 -- approximately 1,200 megawatts by 2008 and an additional 1,000 megawatts by 2010.

ENDESA signs an agreement with GAMESA ENERGIA to acquire wind farms in Italy with a total capacity of 200 MW
ENDESA EUROPA has signed a framework agreement with GAMESA ENERGIA S.A. by which it will acquire from this company wind farms in Italy with a total installed capacity of 200 MW and equipped with wind turbines manufactured by Gamesa Eolica, in a period of three years. The operation will cost approximately Euros 250 million in total.

ABB to officially open corporate research center near Cleveland
ABB, a leader in power and automation technologies solutions headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, will formally open a Corporate Research Center (CRC) at its industrial computer control system facility in Wickliffe, Ohio, near Cleveland, in early November. The CRC will concentrate on advanced computer process control and robotics to improve the efficiency and capability of industrial plants and electric utilities.

Constellation Energy announced that the new name for its wholesale origination and risk management arm, Constellation Energy Commodities Group, is now official.

Detroit Edison selects Matrikon Solutions for corporate performance monitoring
Matrikon Inc. announced that Detroit Edison has selected ProcessNet and ProcessDoctor to be part of its generation optimization strategy to assist with monitoring and improving efficiencies of plant operations. ProcessNet will also provide the foundation for their corporate performance monitoring.

Siemens Westinghouse team selected for NIST-ATP award
The U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology - Advanced Technology Program (NIST-ATP) awarded the Siemens Westinghouse (SWPC) and MesoScribe Technologies, Inc. team a four-year, $5.4 million program.

CG&E files alternative proposal on Ohio rate stability plan
The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co., the Ohio operating company of Cinergy Corp., announced that it has filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio a request for rehearing in response to the Commission's September 29, 2004 order which ruled on CG&E's rate stability plan settlement.
