Lenders plan foreclosure of Liberty power plant
Reliant Energy, Inc. has been notified that the lenders to its non-recourse, project-financing subsidiary, Liberty Electric PA, LLC, have initiated foreclosure proceedings with respect to its Liberty power plant, a 530-megawatt, natural gas-fired facility located in Pennsylvania.

Calpine responds to Reuters article
In response to yesterday's Reuters' article regarding a RateFinancials Inc. report, Calpine Corporation is compelled to point out flagrant, misleading and inaccurate allegations as reported by Reuters. The company's requests for a copy of this report were refused by both RateFinancials Inc. and Reuters. Although Calpine responded to questions related to these inaccuracies in advance of the article, Reuters elected not to reflect the company's position.

Roger Agnelli named to Duke Energy board of directors
Roger Agnelli, chief executive officer of the Brazilian firm, Companhia Vale de Rio Doce (CVRD), has been named to the Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK - News) board of directors pending regulatory approval. CVRD is a global mining company and the world's largest producer of iron ore.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro selects Foxboro to upgrade controls at Holyrood generating station
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro has selected the Foxboro unit of Invensys Process Systems to upgrade the existing Westinghouse WDPF DCS (distributed control system) currently installed at the company's Holyrood Thermal Generating Station in Newfoundland with the latest I/A Series automation system technology. Originally placed in service in 1970, the 490 megawatt, oil-fired station generates approximately 30 to 40 per cent of the utility's energy annually.

GE Energy announces kV2c meter is now equipped with Hunt Technologies' TS2 AMR technology
GE Energy has announced that its kV2c polyphase meter has been equipped with Hunt Technologies' TS2 automatic meter reading (AMR) technology. This is the first mass deployable power line communication-based polyphase AMR solution with the ability to perform direct register reads of over 220 data values. It benefits the utility, as it is not required to select specific data values at the time of order and has the flexibility to define specific data packets at any time.
