Philadelphia, PA, June 10, 2008 -- High temperatures and humidity pushed electric demand on the PECO system Monday to the highest ever recorded for a June day and the fifth highest on record for the utility.
Electric demand peaked in the late afternoon at 8,644 megawatts (MW), and the total amount of electricity delivered for the 24-hour period exceeded 170.7 million kilowatt-hours (kWh).
PECO expects temperatures to continue rising.
The record on the PECO system was set Aug. 2, 2006, when demand peaked at 8,932 MW. Total deliveries during that 24-hour period exceeded 181.7 million kWh.
With the extreme heat, PECO will be closely tracking system demand and operating conditions across the region, working to keep the distribution system in balance and preventing any equipment overloads. Personnel will be stationed at critical substations, and field personnel will be available to respond to any equipment trouble that could arise.
