Reading, PA, June 2, 2008 -- Metropolitan Edison (Met-Ed) and Pennsylvania Electric (Penelec) said that the transmission service charges (TSC) approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PPUC) will appear on electric customers' monthly bills from June 1, 2008 through May 31, 2009.
For the average Met-Ed residential customer using 750 kilowatt-hours (KWH) a month, the TSC will result in an increase of approximately 6 percent, or about $4.73 per month. For the average Penelec residential customer using 750 KWH a month, it will result in an increase of approximately 2 percent, or about $1.17 per month.
The revised charges reflect the increased costs the utilities must pay to PJM Interconnection, the regional transmission organization serving Met-Ed and Penelec customers. These transmission rates are approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), are outside the utilities' control, and result in no profit for the companies, said the companies.
Met-Ed and Penelec are subsidiaries of FirstEnergy Corp.
