PEABODY, MA, Dec. 19, 2007 -- Renville-Sibley Cooperative has chosen Advanced AMR Technologies (AAT), makers of a wireless to Internet AMR energy management and control system, to provide the co-op's AMR system to sites across its service area. Renville-Sibley Cooperative Power Association is headquartered in Danube, Minn., and delivers power to nearly 2,000 member/owners throughout Renville County, as well as portions of Sibley, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Redwood and Nicollet counties of Minnesota.
The immediate need was to be able to monitor and record 15-minute interval meter data at selected commercial sites in the co-op's service area. The equipment they were previously using incorporated an on-site "record only" technology which required visits to each and every site every month. According to Dan Kramin, line superintendent at Renville-Sibley, "We had heard of AAT's AMR remote reporting features before and so we were familiar with how it worked. We knew that AAT allowed the ability to remotely monitor and record interval data so that current load profile data would be immediately available to our members. Economically, it allowed us to provide AMR for our commercial sites across the region without having to install expensive infrastructure equipment at each substation as would be required with alternative AMR systems."
In addition to meeting immediate needs, AAT also provides many added benefits. "With AAT, we no longer have to visit each site to collect data, which will not only reduce our expense, but will substantially reduce the bio-security concern found at some of these sites. We considered a modem system, but did not want to use existing communications lines and found it cost prohibitive to install dedicated communications facilities to many of the sites," Kramin added.
