New group formed to promote competitive wholesale electricity markets

Washington, DC, Mar. 20, 2007 -- The PJM Power Providers Group officially launched with the mission of promoting competitive wholesale electricity markets in the 14-state region served by PJM Interconnection.

The PJM Power Providers Group (The P3 Group) is an informal coalition of energy providers who believe properly designed and well-functioning competitive wholesale electricity markets are the most effective means of ensuring a reliable supply of power to the PJM region, facilitating investments in alternative energy and demand response technology; and promoting prices that will allow consumers to enjoy the benefits of competitive electricity markets.

The companies involved will work with state and federal policymakers and other stakeholders including PJM and the Organization of PJM States to advance the group's mission. Members of the PJM Power Providers Group include: Allegheny Energy, Constellation Energy Group, Edison Mission Group, Exelon, FirstEnergy Solutions, Mirant, NRG Energy, PPL, and PSEG.
