OSI awarded a comprehensive contract to provide a new consolidated energy management system

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., Dec. 21, 2004 -- Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has recently been awarded a comprehensive contract by a large Investor Owned Utility (IOU) concern, located in the Mid USA region, to supply a replacement energy management system (EMS) for one of its major operations centers. (The name of the company is purposely withheld due to confidentiality).

The IOU presently operates multiple control regions using different EMS technologies. The IOU intended to consolidate the EMS operations for its various utility jurisdictions to gain efficiencies in support, training, and overall recurring maintenance costs as well as providing disaster recovery operations. Based on the dominant market presence of OSI, the proven flexibility, functionality, and openness of the OSI monarch™ architecture, the ease of maintenance and its lower on-going maintenance costs, the IOU decided to standardize on the OSI solution as the sole common platform for its EMS technology needs across all of its operating companies.

The new EMS system implementation will support two(2) distinct system operations and EMS centers during normal operations, and would allow each center the ability to back up the other center in case of an emergency.

The proposed EMS system is based on OSI's monarch distributed open technology and includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Historical Information Archiving, Web-based corporate information dissemination, DNP and legacy RTU communications, Generation Control and Dispatch, Energy Accounting, Topology Processor, State Estimation, Power Flow, Contingency Analysis, Operator Training Simulator, Unit Commitment, Transaction Scheduling, and Market interfaces to the Midwest ISO. The project is scheduled to be implemented in a fast track multiple phase implementation strategy, with each phase implemented in 4-6 months.

"We are extremely honored to have won the trust of this customer and look forward to becoming the single source supplier of SCADA and EMS functionality for their entire corporation. We will continue to work very hard to make sure this project is executed successfully and is implemented on-time." said Bahman Hoveida, President & CEO of OSI.
